Stargazing is a work that aims to make a contemporary process as well as its effects and consequences tangible. Realizing that large-scale advertisements and billboards make it impossible to see the stars at Times Square, New York due to light pollution, Gregor Vogel took to an alternative way to establish a connection between him and his surrounding. By employing a smartphone application capable of superimposing star constellation over the phone‘s live camera view, he was able to take pictures of what was not visible under given circumstances.

The double meaning of the word “star” as well as the deliberately included button provided by the app reading “Remove Ads” add an ironic undertone to the topic.
